In Bath, I learned so much about the Shelley's and Lord Byron- they are not who I thought they were- and we got the skinny on them and why she really wrote about a Monster. They really tried to bring a dead cat back to life and were involved in some pretty seedy goings-on trying to make scientific discoveries. Mary lied to her father by saying she was going to pray for her mother at the cemetery, then meet Percy there to have sex on her mother's grave. Byron and Percy were involved.
I learned that I can walk a lot farther than I thought I could. I love to get my kids into a story or time period by trying to bring it to life for them by creating imagery and let them know what was going on in that time period for the author to write what they did. I learned where C.S. Lewis worked and got the inspiration for the characters in his book.
On our third day there I started passing blood and clots so we had to make a stop at a hospital. Even though I felt bad, we kept going and made a lot of rest stops. I learned that if we take one thing at a time we can overcome anything and things will work out.
-giving students opportunities to access my online diary and pictures (website on face book) -give students access to information that I brought back for my classroom. -integrating the videos and pictures/knowledge that I gained to be used in research projects
Students will create a portfolio of an author to present in class. They will have to go beyond the usual information and come up with original thoughts and concepts about who the author's were, why they wrote, and why they chose to/chose not to use their real names until later.
Before we left we created a face book page and a twitter page for students/parents and friends to follow us on our pilgrimage of knowledge in the UK. They are still responding to our journals and pictures and ask questions about our trip.
